Leoville Las Cases 1999
Chateau Leoville Las Cases
The 1999 Leoville Las Cases possesses a dense purple color as well as classic aromas of vanilla, black cherries, and currants mixed with subtle toasty oak. The wine is medium-bodied with sweet tannin, yet it remains young, backward, and unevolved (unusual for a 1999). Its extraordinary purity and overall harmony give it a character all its own. This excellent Las Cases will be at its finest between 2006-2022. *** A seductive, dark ruby/purple-colored offering, the 1999 exhibits aromas of sweet black fruits intertwined with cedar, lead pencil, and vanillin. Medium to full-bodied, with low acidity, it is forward, precocious, and already delicious. This seductive effort will drink well, atypically, at a young age. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2015. *** Reasonably powerful and concentrated, this is an elegant, low acid, surprisingly forward, medium-bodied Las Cases with a well-displayed, intense black fruit character nicely buttressed by new oak, mineral, and spice. Harvested between September 22 and October 5, only 31.8% of the production was included in the grand vin. * A blend of 62.4% Cabernet Sauvignon and equal proportions of Merlot and Cabernet Franc (no Petit Verdot was included because of its lack of maturity caused by the late harvest rains), the 1999 is seductive and hedonistic. This successful, forward Las Cases will offer delicious drinking early, yet it has the richness, depth, and overall balance to age for 15-20 years.

Chateau Leoville Las Cases
Chateau Leoville Las Cases is a famed wine producer from the Saint Julien appellation based in Bordeaux, France. The primary red fine wine produced by this estate is classified as a Second Growth, according to the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855.
Chateau Leoville Las Cases was once a subdivision of a much larger plot, along with Leoville Barton and Leoville Poyferre, until 1840 when the estate was once again divided to give Chateau Leoville Las Cases true independence.
The vineyards of Leoville las Cases span just under 100 hectares, with a grape selection of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The estate was one of the first to introduce a second wine, labeled Clos du Marquis, however that is officially a separate wine. The actual second label is in production since 2007, referred to as Le Petit Lion de Marquis de Las Cases.
