Le Pin 1987

Chateau Le Pin

32 jahre

With respect to the 1987, a big, exotic, perfumed, smoky, oaky bouquet is at first forceful and unrestrained. However, as the wine sits in the glass, the ripe, red fruit character emerges, followed by a lush, flattering, precocious wine that should be drunk over the next 4-5 years. It has been delicious since bottling. Anticipated maturity: Now-1997. Last tasted, 1/93. *** Last Tasted 6/92 * This has always been one of the finest wines of the 1987 vintage, a year where a number of Pomerol and Graves producers turned out wines with surprising richness. The fine 1987s are characterized by soft, sweet, ripe fruit - no doubt because much of the Merlot was harvested before it was damaged by rain. This wine reveals a deep ruby color with no signs of amber or dilution. The nose is exceptionally ripe and jammy, with plenty of toasty new oak intermingled with the aroma of Provencal herbs. In the mouth, there is wonderful ripeness, rich, sweet, velvety textured fruit, medium body, and a soft finish. Aromatically, the wine appears to be close to full maturity, but there is no danger in cellaring it for another 3-5 years.

Chateau Le Pin

Chateau Le Pin is a world famous wine growing estate based in Bordeaux, France. Falling under the directives of the Pomerol appellation, this relatively small chateau is on the right bank of the Gironde estuary. Although miniscule in terms of size, when compared with the other wine estates in Bordeaux, France – Chateau Le Pin consistently produces the world’s most expensive and highly rated red wines.

The name Le Pin is derived from a solitary pine tree that grows near the winery, and as of 2012 the estate spans a mere 2.7 hectares. Le Pin bottles and cases are a constant presence in the wine market, fetching high prices year after year; a fact that is somewhat justified by the fact that only around 700 cases are produced each year.
